There are seven species of carp in the UK alone. In the slideshow below, shows all the species caught in the UK. They all vary in shape, size, weight, apearance and scale. For example Mirror Carp usually have only a few scales compared to a Common, Grass, Ghost and Crucian Carp. Unless it is a fully scaled mirror. There are many ways and techniques. See below all the key tips on how to catch carp. Including reccomended bait, tackle and techniques.

Bait

Recommened baits are nuts, boilies ground bait, hemp, pellet, floating bread and maize, maggots, corn, cockels, liquid flavouring and many other salt water baits. All these types of bait vary in brand names and flavours.

Tackle and Techniques

Tackle is the key thing in carp fishing, the better fisherman have a range of tackle on their lines and use it effectivley. One of the best technique in catching carp is by fishing off the bottom with the two main techniques called ledgering and feeder fishing. Ledgering is basically where you add a heavier weight than a shot so that the bait and line sinks to the bottom, these weights come in a huge range some being heavy some being not so heavy. It depends really what the depth of the water is and if you are fishing on a river with a strong or weak flow. You can use a large range of tackle with a ledger, for example lead clip to keep it still and anchor tubing so that the line doesn't tangle. If you are fishermen simply search the type of tackle you want in the google bar provided.

The next main technique is called feeder fishing. Feeder fishing is little like ledgering apart from you have a piece of tackle called a feeder. There a many types of feeders the most used ones are called, cage feeders, method feeders and open end feeders. On all 3 of these feeders the idea is to put bait on/into the feeder and cast out so that the feeder releases the bait far out. You still have a hook on the end of the line with whatever bait you want preferably you should have the bait in the feeder on the hook. Feeder fishing is an easier way of luring the fish into the bed of bait so that eventually they take your hook bait(too see more on these feeders go to the tackle page). The final technique you can use when carp fishing is Float Fisihng. See float fishing page by clicking the link below. Only diffrence is that you don't offer as much bait using pop-up bolies and float bait. The main difference is also how hard the carp fights so stonger line will be needed.
